According to state law 105 CMR 480, it is illegal to dispose of sharps, as well as unopened packages of hypodermic needles and lancets, by throwing them in the trash. The best way to dispose of sharps is to place them in a designated sharps container marked with the universal biohazard warning symbol.

Several Sharps Disposal Kiosks are available in the region. Sharps must be sealed in a puncture resistant container before being placed in the collection unit. Collection kiosks are available at the following locations:

The CMRPHA has a limited number of needle clipping devices available to residents that can be used to conveniently collect needles for disposal. Call 508 799 8532 for more information.

In addition, sharps can be disposed of during hazardous waste collection days sponsored by local Departments of Public Works. Call your local DPW for a schedule of collection days.
