Mission: The mission of the Worcester Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation (WAASE) is to develop prevention and intervention strategies designed to reduce/eliminate sexual exploitation and human trafficking in greater Worcester. We identify and respond to victims, traffickers, buyers and facilitators in order to improve the health and wellness of our community.
Vision: We strive for a community that recognizes sex trafficking as a crime induced by force, fraud, or coercion; considers traffickers, buyers and facilitators criminals; and treats victims and survivors with dignity and respect.
The Alliance: WAASE was established in 2012 to build a system of support for women involved in sex trafficking. Through work groups and quarterly meetings, a Memorandum of Understanding was developed to outline the agreements and expectations of participating agencies and organizations.
Agencies: The following agencies have joined the Alliance
Ascentria Care Alliance (formerly Lutheran Social Services of New England)
Community Healthlink (CHL)
Outreach Workers: Spectrum has hired two Community Outreach and Engagement Specialists, Melissa Tarallo and Kathy Gervais, who are responsible for targeting female victims of sex trafficking in the City of Worcester and connecting them to appropriate services. Melissa and Kathy will also be educating the public about the sex trafficking and exploitation, recruiting participants, and networking with community-based organizations in collaboration with peer volunteers.
If you know of women who will benefit from their services, please do not hesitate to contact them.
